I once saw an episode of Martha Stewart where she showed how to prevent boil overs by simply placing a wooden spoon across the top of the pot. I've been doing that ever since (even if I place the lid back on top so it's balanced with the spoon in place) and it works every time. I have no idea why, but it has saved me about 9287398472 times now since I routinely make pasta dishes and boil them over every. single. time. lol
