“Grilling” Steak with a Broiler

Overcoming the Winter Grill Blues Durkee Grill Creations

Dear Reader-

I love to grill out and many a winter days you will find me out on the deck grilling up one of my favorite marinades. Now, I don’t have a garage to cuddle up next to like my bloggy pal Miss Heather does ;) … So sometimes when I have been chilly most of the day, the last thing I want to do is brave the elements to get my grill on ;)

Broiler Baby

That is when I turn on my oven’s broiler… with the broiler pan inside.

Preheat broiler pan

Once the oven and pan reach 550 degrees (make sure to preheat), I toss my seasoned steak on…

SIZZLE…

Ah, I love that sound and that smell…

I then close up the broiler and wait 5 minutes…

flip steak

At the 5 minute mark, I  flipped the steak… and broiled for 3 more minutes for a nice Medium doneness…  a little longer would have sufficed for Well Done.

Note: These times will vary depending on the thickness of your steak. It is best to just hang out near the broiler and check on it to make sure it gets to the temp you prefer.

Give It a Rest

Rest your steak

Remove from your broiler pan and place the steak on a plate to rest for 5 minutes before serving.

How Do You Like Your Steak?

How do you take your steak?

I love mine with a sprinkle of steak seasoning and cooked to a perfect medium. Usually a sirloin. No steak sauce here. How about you?

No sauce, no seasoning, just bovine goodness! My absolute fave is rib eye.

2 questions: How close do you have your pan to the broiler flame, and do you have it on high or low?
