If you have ever had fresh shrimp in New Orleans, you aren’t likely to forget it. The locals always know how to make it just right. I am not a huge seafood fan, but let me tell you, I could eat my fair share! This Low-Country Shrimp Boil recipe is the perfect recipe to bring that local flavor to where-ever you call home- even the land-locked Hoosier state!
Seafood Recipes for the Non-Seafood Fan
This new cookbook has Puddie cheering because when the cook in your house isn’t really a big seafood eater, she doesn’t really make a lot of fish in the kitchen and much to his delight, it has 10 mouth-watering, picture-perfect fish and seafood recipes among its 101 recipes. Dishes like Maryland Crab Cakes, Shrimp & Orzo Salad and BBQ Shrimp & Pineapple Kabobs have this non-seafood gal singing a different tune! Truth be told, the images in the book were so inviting that I made him stop at the store to grab the ingredients for the Low-Country Shrimp Boil immediately after flipping through the book for the first time! We made it for dinner that night!
Quick and Easy
Aside from the seafood, this book is chock-full of recipes that are right down my alley- quick and easy! In fact, it has a whole chapter dedicated to just that with recipes for One-Dish Speedy Couscous, Pork Tacos, Garden Skillet with Chicken and more filling its pages.
Slowly Simmered
The next chapter is all about simmering up great food with simple recipes that bring the slowly cooked flavor. Recipes like Pulled Chicken and Slaw Sandwiches, Chicken-Rice Skillet, and Tortilla Stew all have piqued my interest!
Serves a Crowd
I just love it when my favorite cookbooks include sections meant to feed a crew. When preparing food for family gatherings or pitch-ins at a friend’s house I like being able to flip to a section like this and find recipes like Grilled Sausage and Veggie Packs, Creamed Chicken on Biscuits, and Simple Skillet Peaches already measured out serve a crowd.
Sweet Tooth
One thing my sweet tooth noticed while flipping the pages of 101 Stovetop Suppers was the 6 sweet treats featured in the book. Four words… Chocolate. Hazelnut. Skillet. Bars.
Videos
Last but not least, the cookbook is equipped with a new feature. Little icons throughout the book indicate recipes that have accompanying videos on Gooseberry Patch’s YouTube Channel! How clever! And, helpful. Needless to say, we are quite the new fans of 101 Stovetop Suppers!
Now Back to Your Regularly Scheduled Recipe Already in Progress…

Chicken or beef stir fry (I just clean out the fridge and throw it in) with rice or Quinoa. Chili is a contender, as well as Chicken and Dumplins’. Goulash, spaghetti, and Homemade chicken noodle soup are staples in the winter. I also just made up a Beef and Tomato stew that went over well with the Hubs. =)

One of my favorite stovetop recipes is “Roast Beef Hash”. I came up with myself when I had a small piece of roast beef left.
Dice your roast into small cubes
Dice some potatoes – enough to go with roast
Dice onion
Throw all into a skillet with a little bacon grease (or veg oil) and add some beef broth (and if you have any gravy left – add that too).
Cover and cook until potatoes are tender and browned. (You have to scrape the bottom occasionally with a spatula to achieve the brown you want on the potatoes.)
Serve with bread and a salad if you wish.
DELICIOUS!!!
