I have said it often. I believe every mama has at least one (if not hundreds) Super Mommy Secret. We all have those everyday tips and tricks that make life a little easier or run a little smoother.
My mama is no exception.
While visiting this weekend, I took some rhubarb down to whip up a couple Strawberry Rhubarb Pies (and a Strawberry Rhubarb Robin) for our family reunion.
Before popping one of the pies into the oven, mom pulled out an old pie tin she had cut the center out of and placed it on top to protect the top crust during the first 30 minutes of baking.
I had been wanting to get me one of those pie crust shields, but now I think I am going to just recycle a pie tin.
Note: If your oven tends to really burn those edges you might add a little foil around the edge for even more protection.
I just love the idea of sharing our tips and tricks to making things work.

Pie crust one of the big reasons I don’t make pie. I think I can figure out the cold crutst thing, but hate making strips of tin foil for the edges. This is a great idea! Thanks for sharing.

Cris, you never cease to amaze me! What a simply solution to trying to protect the crust from over-browning! I’ve always fought with strips of aluminum foil, but after this post, NO MORE. Thanks for the great tip. I’m a little annoyed at myself for not thinking of this. lol
