Are you looking for a yummy homemade barbecue sauce to dress up some legs, wings or thighs? This versatile recipe for Saucy Chicken Legs is perfect for the grill and the oven alike.
I altered this super yummy, finger-lickin’ good recipe (that was originally intended for the oven) to cook up on my grill. I found the original recipe in Gooseberry Patch’s Weeknight Dinners Cookbook and thought it would go nicely in our On the Lighter Side Series.
Since I was lightening this up, I skinned my chicken legs.
Now, I normally love me some charred chicken skin on the grill, so there will probably be a not so light version of this yummy dish to hit my grill at some point this summer. But, for this meal we went skinless.
The original recipe calls for you to combine all the ingredients, coat the chicken and place in a baking pan. Then pour remaining sauce over the top– yum! Then you bake for 45-50 minutes at 375.
Instead, I grilled up my chicken and basted it with the sauce about 20 minutes into grilling. The legs should cook to an internal temp minimum of 165 to be safe, although I personally prefer the texture of a bird cooked to 170-180. The totally grilling time, depending on leg size, is typically 30 minutes.
