Want some crunchy, delicious fries? Why not make them yourself?! Once you try these Homemade Steak Fries from Gooseberry Patch’s Rush-Hour Recipes, you won’t want store bought again!
We needed a side for dinner the other night, and these Homemade Steak Fries were amazing!
I had never made homemade fries before, but we had a bunch of potatoes, as well as some corn flakes left in the cabinet from making this Slow Cooker Bunch of Crunch Candy (Yum!), so I thought I would give it a try.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I have to tell you that I made WAY too many, so it took me a lot longer this first time through. I seriously could have fed a small army with what I made. So I would suggest that you start with peeling and slicing into wedges just a couple of potatoes. That way you can look at your pile of fries and decide if more work is necessary to feed your brood or not.
Homemade Steak Fries
Peel and slice your potatoes.
Crush up your corn flakes. I ended up using my little one serving blender/smoothie maker to get it down to a finer breading. That texture actually worked really well for coating all of these bad boys.
Whisk together your egg whites, salt and pepper in one bowl, and place your corn flake breading in another bowl.
Lightly grease a baking sheet and preheat your oven to 450.
Dip each slice of potato in the egg mixture.
Place the coated potato slice in the corn flake breading and toss the breading on top until you can’t see the potato anymore. (This method seemed to work best for me. It minimized the amount of breading becoming clumpy and unusable.)
Gently pull the breaded potato slice out of the mound of breading and place on the baking sheet.
Repeat coating and breading for all potato slices and arrange on baking sheet.
Bake for approximately 25 minutes until the outside is golden and crispy and the inside is tender.
