I am ready for Thanksgiving and the Holiday season this year, aren’t you? I am not sure what it is about this year exactly, but I am craving the warmth of the fireplace and the baking of cookies…
In all seriousness though, I think Miss Add– and namely how quickly she is growing up– is a big reason why you won’t hear me grumbling about the calendar moving toward the holidays this year.
Truth be told, I think I have become more and more aware of how these precious years are quickly slipping right through my fingers, so when I can wrap a few days in tradition and fill them up with memories, I jump at the chance.
And at our house, like I am sure at many of your homes, holiday meals are chock-full of tradition and memories.
As Thanksgiving approaches, Mom, Aunt Lou and I are figuring out our menu details, but as always, tradition reigns supreme. All of the recipes below have made at least one appearance on our holiday table over the years, and many–most actually– make a regular appearance.
Turkey
Now mom usually makes our turkey in a Turkey Roaster each year to free up the oven for all the other baking. However, when I am making a turkey at home, this recipe is the one I use. Easy peasy.
Corn Casserole
You may call it corn pudding, spoon bread or corn casserole and everyone has a different way to make it. But there is something that just says Thanksgiving about this velvety and creamy side dish.
This year I will be making a fantastic slow cooker version. In the past I have also loved this oven version.
Stuffing/Dressing
I am a stickler for my Stove Top Stuffing. We call it stuffing even though we don’t stuff it inside the bird anymore.
It is tradition.
It is quick, easy and it is really good– especially when made with chicken broth instead of water– trust me on this one and you will never have it with plain old water again.
This year I will be whipping up a batch of my Slow Cooker Stuffing so I can let my crock pot do all the cooking while I work on the rest of my dishes.
Broccoli-Cauliflower Cheesy Bake
This Broccoli-Cauliflower Cheesy Bake is my favorite holiday dish that my mother-in-law makes. I borrowed her beloved dish a few years ago and brought it to my side of the family’s festivities to rave reviews.
This year I want to teach Miss Add how to make it.
Chicken and Noodles
Another Momma Goode specialty also makes it to our holiday table quite regularly– Chicken and Noodles.
We especially like this around Christmas Eve. Mikey sometimes makes it for the evening meal and then the leftovers make their way to the holiday table on Christmas Day. (If making your own noodles is not your thing, check out Aunt Lou’s post on my family’s Chicken and Dumplins using canned biscuit dough.)
Sweet Potato Casserole
Aunt Lou is REQUIRED to bring her Sweet Potato Casserole every year.
Period.
No really, she is not allowed at the table without it.
This “side dish” is actually far more like a dessert… except you don’t have to politely wait until dinner settles to dig into it.
Yeast Rolls
My mother-in-law’s Homemade Old Fashioned Crescent Rolls are ah-mazing and oh-so holiday worthy. But when it comes to Thanksgiving, my sister and I will revolt if mom does not make her Homemade Yeast Rolls from our childhood.
These rolls are steeped in memories and tradition and a must… and the leftovers come with us every Black Friday to fuel our shopping stamina.
Mac and Cheese (with Smoked Sausage)
As adamant as Aunt Lou and I are about the rolls, Miss Add is about her Mac and Cheese which we add smoked sausage to for the holidays. I just realized that I need to add this recipe to the site, but it is pretty much this “recipe” with smoked sausage thrown in. (Full -real recipe- coming soon).
Pecan Pie
Now truth be told, this is how I “make” our Pecan Pies most of the time. But on occasion I have made these Caramel Pecan Pies.
Pecan Rolls
Speaking of pecans… My mother-in-law’s Homemade Pecan Rolls are legendary around here. So. GOODe!
Chocolate Delight
Chocolate Delight is one of those dishes that I rarely have outside of the holidays and I love it so much. Mom has made it with butterscotch pudding before and banana pudding before, but my favorite is always chocolate.
(Crustless) Pumpkin Pie
I adore this crock pot recipe for Crustless Pumpkin Pie. So much so we will be having it in place of a traditional pie this year.
Banana Split “Cake”
Adapted over the years, this “cake” has been passed down on my mom’s side of the family and is always a favorite. It is super rich, does not involve baking and is technically not a cake at all, but one thing Banana Split “Cake” is… IS delicious.
Peach Cobbler/Peach Dump Cake
Papaw is a huge peach fan, so we always have to find something peachy.
I was thinking about bringing this ah-mazing Easy Peach Cobbler, but I think Aunt Lou has decided to bring her Crock Pot Peachy Dump Cake.
Mini Pies
Last but not least a mini treat to please a family of diverse likes.
We love whipping these Mini Pies up in every flavor you can think of and having our pies and eating them too 😉

Green bean casserole is a must have for my family as we’ll as deviled eggs. In addition to turkey, we usually have a ham too 🙂

All of your Thanksgiving recipes sound so good! In our family, we do cornbread dressing though…we can’t do Thanksgiving OR Christmas without it! And we’re just about as bad about having Broccoli/Rice casserole! Ya’ll have a great turkey day!
