Long time readers know that I am a huge Gooseberry Patch fan. On any given day it is likely you will find me flipping through my ever growing library of Gooseberry Patch cookbooks.
I love the great recipes I find– so many of which have become my family’s favorites– all submitted by regular home cooks that cook like I do. So, it shouldn’t be a surprise that when Gooseberry Patch asked me if they could send me a copy of their new Grilling and Campfire Cooking Cookbook for me and one lucky reader, I of course said of course! (Scroll to the bottom to enter to win a copy!)
Now, truth be told, it doesn’t take a whole lot to make me fall in love with a new Gooseberry Patch cookbook. I have always loved cookbooks that “get” me. The variety in their books offer me the opportunity to choose to get something quickly on the table on a busy weeknight or to spend a little time in the kitchen with a fantastic home-cook tested from scratch recipe on the weekend. Their ingredient lists are full of items that are already in my pantry and fridge.
However, there have always been some of their books that I loved more than others. And, then there are THE books I go back to over and over and over… Best-Ever Casseroles Cookbook and Slow Cooking All Year ‘Round come to mind. They are the books I always recommend as must-haves to Gooseberry Patch newbies ;). Grilling and Campfire Cooking falls into that category for me.
Now that could have a little to do with our love affair with all things grilling and the fact that we love to head out to our favorite fishing hole and cook out anytime we get the chance to get away.
During this trip, we actually made one of the recipes from this book… the uber-delicious and incredibly simple Chocolate Peanut Butter Campfire Burritos.
We have made these things eleventy-billion times this summer.
They are sooo good! You can get the recipe here.
Puddie also has a recipe in this cookbook! His Shrimp Rub is included in the Marinades, Rubs and Sauces section.
As you can see, there are all kinds of yummy chapters with a variety of fresh and easy to throw together options like…
This Cilantro Corn Salad that just screams summer in a bowl and…
These oh-so-easy Meatball Skewers– yum!
Aunt Lou has been cooking up all kinds of great recipes from this cookbook too. Recipes like: Dutch Oven Peach Cobbler, BBQ Ranch Stuffed Cheddar Burgers, Peachy Pork Kabobs and BBQ Bacon Cheddar Burgers.
Other bloggers have fallen in love with this cookbook too. Check out these other great recipes…
- Butter Pecan Ice Cream
- April’s Barbecue Chicken
- Grilled Pepperoni Loaf
- Eggscellent Burgers
- One Skillet Pierogie Dinner
- Sweet and Spicy Chicken

I have to choose only one? Stephanie’S Fireside Asparagus is simple and allows me to use the fresh asparagus right from our garden.

My granddaughters (both age 7) and I made the chocolate, peanut butter campfire burritos. You should know that we are peanut butter fiends and S’mores purists. Normally we would not
combine the elements of each. But in this case, we made the exception.
Loved it. Each of the girls had their own “workstation” complete with 2 smaller sized flour tortillas, ind. topping containers, foil and plastic knives. We pulled out the ol’ fire pit and small tent and had our own “Camp”. Putting it all together in a tortilla, genius. Next will be the meatball skewers. I think these will be a huge hit at our daughters camp (Real camping) wedding next Summer, along with a modified version of the campfire burritos (Nutella). I bet we could plan the whole camp wedding menu from this one recipe book. 🙂
