Around our house, Groundhog Day is rarely on February 2nd like most places.
Around our house, Groundhog Day has everything to do with Spring but nothing to do with shadows.
Around our house, Groundhog Day has nothing to do with Punxsutawney Phil and everything to do with Hank Green.
No, not that Hank Green…
Meet Hank Green.
Hank (and his family) has lived on our land for over a decade.
In our family, when you spot Hank in the backyard, you must let everyone know so everyone can join in the joy of seeing him living his best life.
So, at our house, Groundhog Day is the first day (after winter) when Hank is spotted in the backyard.
He’s our first glimmer of Spring and hope for the warmer days to come.
I once was asked why on earth I would let a groundhog live on my land.
“Well, because it is his home.”
“But he will dig up holes in your yard”
“He’s lived here for years and never caused any problems”
“You really should shoot him, he is gonna dig up your yard”
“Well, Mikey digs up my yard all the time and I’ve yet to shoot him, so let’s just leave ole Hank alone, shall we?”
Groundhog Day was March 2nd this year… if you were wondering ;).
