If there is one Super Mommy Secret for this modern mom, it is utilizing technology for my advantage.
Just like Ariel, I have gadgets and gizmos a plenty and whozits and whatzits galore, so it is about time they start helping me out–outside of the board room… that is…
I think at one time I once had a blackberry, android, palm, zune, 2 laptops– all in the name of business…
Now isn’t much better (even though I am down to one phone and it ISN’T a Blackberry… Hallelujah! (Sorry if that is your preferred phone… I had a hate/hate relationship with mine ;)).
Anyhoo… back to technology working for mom… since we so often feel the other way around…
Case in point: Keeping the kiddo entertained while waiting for a table at a busy restaurant, taking an eye exam or when Mommy needs to take an important call…
If you happen to have an iPhone or iPad below are some apps that are Miss Add tested– keeping her content and Mommy sane.
WeetWoo! ($3.99)
WeetWoo is an awesome little app for those times you have a WiFi connection. It catalogs and updates links to tons of kid friendly videos and educational videos on YouTube. From her Sprout favorites to Hooked on Phonics videos, this App keeps her entertained with content I can trust– it is parent reviewed. This is one of Add’s more expensive apps at $3.99, but it is worth every penny in my opinion.
Where’s My Water ($.99)
This is a fun game app from Disney is chock full of entertaining and thought-provoking cause and effect activities as you attempt to get the water to Poor Little Swampy the Crocodile. Be warned though… this game can be quite addictive… especially for the adult kiddos in the house 😉 You can check out Swampy in the video below.
Angry Birds (FREE)
In other cause and effect games, I have to mention dear ole Angry Birds… This is one game that even though everyone is doing it– it doesn’t mean it is all bad 😉 Miss Add LOVES what she used to call “Mad Birds”… and truth be told, she can beat me at it pretty easily.
Toy Story (FREE)
The original Toy Story app is not only free, but one of the best preschool apps out there. They give you a great taste of where they have set the bar for their other modern story book apps. From fun games, music from the movie and coloring sheets to the interactive story, you can’t beat the value of this app.
Color and Draw for Kids ($1.99)
This app is oodles and doodles of fun! With color sheets, stickers, letter and number tracing sheets and tons of textures with plenty of color… not to mention voice prompts, this app is not only fun, but educational too!
Piano Free with Songs (FREE)
While this is not a quiet distraction by any means, Miss Add LOVES music and I love how it teaches her with sheet music with keyboard prompts while playing some of her favorite songs. While I type this, she is playing jingle bells all on her own… with the help of this app.
Android lovers stay tuned… I will see what I can find… but truth be told, I like that Miss Add likes the iPad– it gives me an excuse to keep her off my Evo and Thrive… which I personally prefer tons over the apple products.

I’ve been scoring some decent deals for this Christmas- but I’m wondering – are those aps JUST for apple products? I’m getting a couple of mp3’s that will do video, music, and even games and a tablet that does all that & surfs the net + ebooks and such- of course, now that I have typed out my question- I’m pretty sure apple is for apple and that’s all – I’m going to check local library for downloadable interactive books – love those! (I have 3 little boys, and the last time I went to the Dr- one was climbing on the stool & one was standing on his head . . . . . in the chair. yes. to be fair – they had been waiting WAYYYYY to long, but GOODness Gracious!!!! 🙂 any suggestions you have for free/cheap “universal” aps – pls let me know! tks-

It really depends on the app, some are Apple only and some are available in the Android Market as well. I hope to share more as time goes by for the Android folks as well.
