Dear Reader-
I am frustrated.
I feel like I have been made a fool.
I have spent countless hours building a platform along side this blog on a site that I upheld even when a lot of people had a growing disdain for it.
Yep.
I am talking about Facebook.
If you have joined me in that growing community over the last couple years, don’t worry… I will still post there… this isn’t one of those kinds of posts.
But this avid Facebook fan has changed her tune.
I used to love Facebook- almost to a fault…
It was so fun and easy to build community there with you– my readers… because while everyone didn’t always like to comment on blogs, it was super easy to converse as a community on Facebook.
When people would complain about changes, I would stress flexibility.
But things keep changing for bloggers in negative ways… a little here and a lot there and now, you talk to most bloggers and you can feel the frustration.
It stinks to work hard to connect with your community and jump through Facebook’s rules and formulas only to land three years later and find that no matter how you play their game, you only connect with about 10-30% of your audience at any given time.
It is like playing a card game with a competitive toddler who changes the rules.
Some bloggers have bought the promoted posts with little results while others just protest with pleas to their readers and there are still some than tout nothing has changed… but it has.
My perception has changed.
Ya see tonight a light bulb switched on while I was taking this survey about how much time I invest in each of the social media platforms and also were my traffic from this blog comes from…
And it occurred to me that I am not being a good steward of my time or my blog community by trying force Facebook into being what it used to be…
Facebook has every right to change.
But, truth be told, when I look at my stats and my community, my time spent with Facebook is simply disproportionate to the results.
Facebook still has its place, but I am done trying to figure out how to please them at the detriment of my other platforms… including the GOODEness Gracious blog itself.
Instead, I am going to try and better cultivate community here on this blog, and focus on places like Pinterest, Instagram and Twitter… and even dip my toe back into Google+ a bit.
If it makes sense for Facebook to cut me off from my community 70-90% of the time there, that is okay.
Facebook owns Facebook.
But, if that is what makes sense for them, then that means I need to find better tools to reach my growing community.
This is where you come in:
Would you mind helping me find you out there?
For the next month I want to focus on finding you guys out there and connecting where it makes sense, then reassess after a month.

Sheryl-
Thank you so much for sharing and liking content on the Facebook page. I really appreciate it. I enjoy seeing your comments and very much appreciate your interaction. Additionally by you doing so, you help those posts to be seen by more people.
Unfortunately, according to Facebook, a lot of other fans don’t get that opportunity and have never been prompted to add the page into their newsfeed. Most fans assume that when you like a page, that means you will see their content… but that hasn’t been the case for some time and now, it is even less so (again, according to the numbers Facebook sends me).
I will still be on Facebook, I am just shifting my time a little and giving things a month to see if there are some better uses of my time on the other platforms.
