Are you a plus size woman like me and CRINGE at the thought of trying to find something to wear? Join me on my journey to build my wardrobe one piece at a time with my weekly Outfit of The Day recap posts. Finding cute and fun clothes has been a struggle for me for years and so frankly, I just quit trying. But as I am learning to be more comfortable in my own skin, I am rediscovering how much I used to enjoy putting together a nice outfit and I am learning there are a lot more resources for gals like me than their used to be…
Note: This post is not sponsored, however I do use referral links to products I love so you can find them too!
Cris here.
Let me start by saying I am in no way a fashion blogger. I am a food blogger… slow cooker recipes food blogger to be exact ;). So, my extent of “fashion expertise” goes about as far as my favorite apron.
But as I have been working on the me outside of the kitchen, I have discovered that having clothes I feel good in makes life more enjoyable, so I am on a journey to build my wardrobe.
Dia & Co: The Beginning of a Journey
Recently I found a company called Dia and Co. that is a plus size subscription service much like Stitch Fix (who now also has plus sizes). For $20 per box, a stylist helps you find clothes that best fit your body and style. That $20 is available to be discounted from any items you keep from your box. Don’t like something? Send it back and only get charged for what you keep. Love it all? Get a 25% discount. The other day I taped a Dia and Co. unboxing for our family youtube channel if you want to see the whole process.
Now, if you watch that video, you will see that those pieces are somewhat pricey and truth be told, a lot more than what I want to pay. However, with that said, I feel like I am paying a premium and getting a lot more than just clothes right now.
My Dia and Co. stylist– Devon Marie– has played a HUGE role in helping me find clothes I love, identifying styles I can look for and introducing me to great plus size brands that have now become my go-tos. No longer am I reduced to the limited offerings I can find in stores… now mama can actually shop without settling and this has been huge for me.
Check out my second unboxing video here:
I realize Dia and Co. may not be for everyone, but for me, they have been the beginning to a journey for me and for that I am thankful.
Plus Size Outfit of the Day (OOTD) Project
So now that I am learning a lot about what types of clothes I love (I adore dresses– who knew?!?) I am stretching myself with a new little project. So MANY of you reached out to me after my Dia video about how you are struggling too, I thought it might be fun to share a bit of a daily dose of my journey. Some outfits may be new, but also, many are pieces I already owned and all they needed was a belt or necklace to make them a bit more stylish.
So, for the next 3o days, I am going to try to take a photo of my outfit each day… the good, the bad and the ugly– ha! And I am going to try to post weekly recaps of those photos each week. (Next week I am going to try adding links to any clothes that are still available out there too). This may end up being totally fun or a total flop! Who knows… but here goes!
Sunday
I didn’t come up with this idea until Monday, so there is no Sunday pic this week. (But that just means I can repeat this outfit later in the month… whew!)
Monday
Miss Add and I made a full day of shopping so I added to this outfit throughout the day as I shopped… TeeHee!

Thursday
It was hotter than blue blazes on Thursday, so I wore this light weight floral dress for most of the day but later in the day I needed my jacket while running errands. I am really digging wearing dresses during the day… they are comfortable for the summer heat and layer-able when it cools down.

- Boyfriend Jeans – Torrid
- Shoes – DSW
- Belt & Necklace – Kohls
Saturday
Saturday was a big family day of running around. We went to brunch and then we had plans to go to the movies AND a MercyMe concert, so I needed comfort. I went for some super comfy capris and a light weight blouse… and yes I was so wishing I hadn’t already worn my favorite tank on Wednesday or I would have wore it! But this outfit ended up being perfect except for the shoes. I loved reminiscing the early 2000’s in Steve Madden Slides… I LIVED in those things years ago but my –17 years older –ankles were screaming with all the walking we did that day and I so wish I had wore my comfy Tevas instead. Lesson learned.
- Sleeveless Shirt & Black Capris – TJ Maxx
- Steve Madden Slides – DSW
- Pendant Necklace – Anniversary Gift from Mikey
- Hoops – Walmart
- Sunglasses – Amazon
- Hat – Kohls
What I learned this week:
- I really love dresses. They are comfortable and great for keeping cool in the summer heat.
- I have missed fun shoes… but I also need to ease back into it -ha!
- I feel better when I get dressed up a little, even if it is just to run errands.
What I will do differently next week:
- More Tevas this coming week and less wedges. My ankles need a break 😉
See ya next week with another recap!

You look beautiful in every outfit!
I can’t wear any flip flop style shoe. The strap between my toes digs in and rubs the skin raw. But your shoes are all gorgeous! I may need to hunt for a Teva slide without the toe strap and in a wide width.
Cris says
Aw Thanks Sandy!
I adore my Tevas… I think they make them as a strapped sandal, but I am not sure about the slide. I always say they feel like I am walking on clouds! Lol!!

Looking good, girlfriend. During the hot and humid summers of my part of Tennessee, I live in rolled up jeans and t-shirts at home; unrolled jeans and short sleeved blouses when I go out. I am a jeans kind of girl. Getting dressed up means wearing a newer, darker blue pair of jeans and putting on some makeup. LOL Good thing there is nothing anywhere near my house that I have to dress up to go to. That’s one reason why I left Memphis and moved to the country.

You look fantastic in all your new outfits. Love watching the unboxing videos.I think that you are brave to undertake this on nation wide videos. I have thought about the plus size services but haven’t got my courage up. I will keep watching and praying for the courage to subscribe to a service. Lots of luck.
