Tonight’s Super Mommy Secrets are about two things… Cast Iron and Stainless Steel.
The first tip on Cast Iron comes from none other than my Super Mom…
When you have a dirty cast iron skillet, NEVER- EVER use soap to wash it.
Soap destroys the seasoning of the skillet and makes it “stick”.
Instead, put hot water into it and let it sit until the water turns luke warm.
Then use a scrubbing sponge and it should come right off.
Dry it off immediately with a paper towel.
Now spritz with oil.
Now, your skillet is ready to store until the next time.
But what about Stainless Steel?
Follow the same steps (minus the oiling part), except add this special ingredient to your water step and cover.
Easiest clean up- EVER. And, your stainless comes away nice and shiny!

Best way to clean a pan (or pot), courtesy of my mother: squirt Dawn dishwashing liquid into it, and return it to the heat. Add a little water, and bring it to a boil. All the burned on bits just loosen right up, and you wipe it out with a dishcloth when you dump the yucky water down the drain. No scrubbing needed.

Have you ever tried the Pampered Chef plastic scrapers? They work magic on my cast iron skillets! I highly recommend using one of them the next time you use your cast iron skillet.

Ketchup cleans copper bottomed pots. Kinda weird, but it works! And I second the pampered chef scrapers!

Thanks for the tips. Seeing the Barkeepers Friend reminds me: It is the ONLY thing I've found that takes the black marks off my white enamel sink. And they come off EASILY, not with tons of scrubbing. It's a great product to keep around. My sink is probably 20 years old and looks almost like new!

We recently switched from nonstick to only cast iron and stainless. I couldn't find barkeeper's friend for a while, so I used baking soda. It works great too as a scouring agent.
